BALMORAL RESIDENCE

A 1,000m2 three-level architectural configuration rising out of the precipitous slopes of Sydney’s lower north shore. A visual meditation on the concept of ‘home’; a zero carbon temple for the sense set in a harbour-side idyll. The subtle changes of the ocean, sky and sub-tropical flora are visible through operable timber screens and floor-to-ceiling glazing - allowing the sun to penetrate and giving the home a sensuality that balances its imposing weight and silence. Simple material contrasts: the lime washed masonry base, which connects it firmly to the earth, the floating upper level in off-form concrete and the expansive cliffside pool, project to the panoramic Sydney heads beyond.
