GARDEN LANE RESIDENCE

Garden Lane Residence is the period restoration and contemporary additions to a 19th century Victorian terrace bordering the Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne's South Yarra. The brief was to reconfigure and extend the heritage home in a way that addressed the dark and cramped nature of the original building, and to re-invigorate and celebrate the period details that had been covered up or removed. The client wanted a home with vibrancy which offered warm tones but also generated a tranquil, uncluttered energy. The resulting spaces are generous and light filled with an enchanting and serene sense of warmth throughout. The old and new are carefully woven together to create a balance of proportion, material and light, which results also in a luxury of spirit.
